AJMAN // A woman and child have been killed and six people injured after a motorist crashed into an EPPCO petrol station in Ajman on Sunday evening.

The victims, who included a 45-year-old Asian woman and a 9-year-old Arab, were inside a McDonald’s restaurant when a motorist suffered an epileptic fit, lost control of his vehicle and drove into the building.

The 22-year-old driver was leaving the parking area when he had a fit which led him to press on the accelerator pedal and crash into the restaurant, hitting the people inside, said Col Abdullah Al Hamrani, deputy commander general at Ajman Police.

The six injured, including the Arab motorist, were taken to Sheikh Khalifa Hospital. The driver was taken to Al Hamidiya Police Station following treatment, Col Al Hamrani said.

Col Al Hamrani urged motorists who suffer from such conditions to avoid driving to prevent such incidents.

Last week, at least two men were injured after an SUV crashed through the front window of the National Paints shop in a similar incident in Sharjah.
