More than 400 accidents recorded on Dubai's 'sandstorm Sunday'

Tailgating left the city streets clogged with stationary traffic and smashed bumpers

From bumps and shunts to major crashes, Dubai Police recorded more than 400 accidents on Sunday when a dust storm descended on the city.

Despite the conditions many motorists continued to tailgate at speed and swerve between lanes, police said on Monday.

A total of 418 traffic accidents took place, largely between early morning and 1pm.

Brig Jumaa bin Suwaidan, acting director of Dubai Traffic Police, said the majority of accidents were 'moderate', involving no severe injuries.

Visibility improved on Monday in most areas.

Traffic patrols have have been stepped up on roads and highways in Dubai and Sharjah, police said.
