The Ministry of Culture and Knowledge Development donated more than 5,500 books to 25 higher education institutions.
Afra Al Sabri, ministry under-secretary, said this initiative also contributed to the creation of reading corners in hospitals and airports.
It entered a new phase with the donation of libraries to colleges and universities.
Ali bin Harmel Al Dhahiri, chief executive of Abu Dhabi University, said the Year of Reading initiative launched by the President, Sheikh Khalifa, has had a wide social impact.
