DUBAI// A jobless man and his friend were arrested with almost half a million dollars in fake notes.

The men from Cameroon, aged 33 and 39, were arrested on March 23 this year.

They were charged with possessing US$427,000 in fake notes and with attempted fraud.

The Dubai Criminal Court heard that the pair tried to convince a man to pay them a sum of money in return for removing black paint from US$2.5 million.

They claimed they needed money to ship the damaged dollars from Cameroon to the UAE and buy a special liquid that would remove the paint without damaging the notes.

The man reported them to police and they were arrested with the fake notes in their possession.

The next hearing will be on May 25.
