Man who stabbed flatmate after cooking argument is jailed for a year by Dubai court

The incident happened at 8pm on August 1 last year at a home in Muraqqabat shared by two Pakistani families.

DUBAI // A man who stabbed his housemate because he was not helping him to cut vegetables for dinner has been sentenced to a year in jail.

The attack occurred on the night of August 1 last year at a home in Muraqqabat, which was shared by two Pakistani families.

“My son bought the groceries and left them in the kitchen, then the defendant called him,” said the victim’s father, 40.

“When my son went to see what he wanted, they argued because the other man couldn’t find the green bell peppers.”

The father said that as his son was leaving the kitchen his housemate, 20, stabbed him twice.

In Dubai Criminal Court, the attacker denied a charge of physical assault, saying he stabbed the victim by mistake. He said he had paid for the victim’s medical treatment and obtained a waiver from his father.

But he was found guilty and was also ordered to pay the victim Dh21,000 in compensation. He will be deported after serving his jail term.
