DUBAI // A man who parked in front of Dubai Police headquarters and proceeded to smoke hashish in his car had his four-year sentence upheld on Thursday.
Emirati MA, 23, was found not guilty by Dubai Criminal Court on a charge of driving his car while under the influence of drugs but he was jailed for consuming drugs.
Police were already looking into MA’s activities but, on September 8 last year, he drove to the police car park and started smoking hashish.
“We searched him and his car. We found hashish hidden inside his sunglasses box and some drug tablets, too, ” said 39-year-old AH, a police colonel.
MA confessed at court to possessing and consuming drugs but he denied driving while under the influence of them.
“I was parked when they arrested me. I was not driving,” he said.
He appealed his consumption charge but the Court of Appeal upheld his jail term on Wednesday morning.
