Man who posed as gardener gets three-year sentence for attempted rape of maid

The Indian man, who was in the country illegally, told the maid he was replacing the old gardener before locking them in the kitchen and trying to force himself on her.

DUBAI // A man who was in the country illegally has been found guilty of attempting to rape a maid and trespassing at her sponsor’s house.

The 35-year-old Pakistani admitted the charges when he appeared at Dubai Criminal Court in May.

On October 20 last year, the Sri Lankan maid, 25, saw the man in the garden of the villa in Al Barsha 3. He told her he was replacing the gardener, who had left the country.

“I believed him and left him to do his work. I headed to the kitchen but he followed me about five minutes later,” said the maid, who added that he locked the door and threw her to the ground. He then held her throat with one hand and undressed her with the other.

The maid resisted, forcing the man to flee. She then told her sponsor, who called police.

The defendant’s DNA was found on victim and he was arrester. Police said he had entered the country illegally.

He was sentenced to three years in jail to be followed by deportation.
