DUBAI // A Bangladeshi man who stabbed a compatriot to death over a debt of Dh3,000 has had his sentence of life imprisonment upheld by the Court of Appeals.
Prosecutors said that on January 17 last year T A, 28, stabbed Mohammed Ahmed three times in the chest after learning he was going to leave the country without repaying the loan.
Bangladeshi driver M H, 45, testified that the killer called him two days later, asking if he knew anyone who could help him to get out of the country.
“He told me he was in Fujairah but when I asked him about his reasons for fleeing the country, he hung up the phone,” the driver said.
The driver was then contacted by police, who were told about the murder by tenants of the villa in which Ahmed’s body was found.
That day the killer called the driver again, and the two agreed to meet and take T A to a man who could help him to get out of the country.
The killer arrived at Al Khawaneej roundabout, in a taxi at 3am on January 20 last year, where he was met by police who took him into custody.
Emirati lieutenant F M, 35, said that the killer had confessed to the crime.
The killer will be deported after completing his jail term, which for a life sentence is usually 25 years.
