DUBAI // A Pakistani driver caught trying to exchange counterfeit US dollars was found not guilty on Thursday.

At Dubai Criminal Court last month, M J, 35, told prosecutors that he did not know that the two $100 (Dh367) notes were fake and that he was given them by an African man after helping him with moving some goods.

Policeman A A said a money exchange centre alerted officers to the man, who was trying to exchange the notes into dirhams.

“The clerk suspected that the dollars were fake. He checked them using a machine and found out they were so he then told M J to sit down and wait for a while and then called the police,” said the 36-year-old officer.

The court ruled in the Pakistani’s favour on Thursday and he can walk free.
