An electronics engineer tried to swallow counterfeit Dh100 banknotes to avoid being charged with forgery.
He had been arrested for eating food he did not pay for and stealing three packets of cigarettes from an Abu Dhabi supermarket.
The Arab man, 36, was also wanted for fleeing from his sponsor.
More fake currency was found at his apartment and a suspected accomplice, 22, was also arrested.
The man confessed that he would try to dupe labourers who were new to the country.
