SHARJAH // A man has denied offering a bribe to an officer at Sharjah Directorate for Naturalisation and Residence.

At Sharjah Criminal Court on Monday, prosecutors charged the Asian man over an incident that happened in July last year, when the defendant allegedly offered an officer a Dh2,000 bribe for processing and approving an application.

However, the accused told the presiding judge that he gave the officer Dh2,000 because he thought it was the processing fee for his application.

“It was not a bribe, I thought I had to pay him Dh2,000 as a fee for processing my application ,” he said.

Sharjah Police said the defendant admitted offering the bribe when he was questioned.

The case was adjourned to April 27.
