Man tells Dubai court he used crystal meth to help him sleep

DUBAI // A 32-year-old worker accused of drug trafficking told the court he used methamphetamine to help him sleep.

Prosecutors said that on February 7 police officers were tipped off about Bangladeshi MG, who was in possession of drugs that he intended to sell to a police informant for Dh300.

Records said that anti-narcotics officers tracked the suspect down to Al Satwa.

An undercover police officer met the Bangladeshi in an alley near a filling station after agreeing to buy drugs from him over the phone.

The officer paid the Dh300 and was handed the drugs before watching officers swooped on the suspect.

About 300 methamphetamine pills were found after police searched the suspect and his home.

At Dubai Criminal Court, the worker denied the charge of drug trafficking and told the presiding judge that the drugs were for his own personal use because it helped him to sleep.

Methamphetamine, also known as crystal meth, is widely known to keep users awake.
