Man not guilty of threats to disfigure ex-wife’s face with acid

DUBAI // An Egyptian man accused of threatening to disfigure his ex-wife’s face with acid had his not guilty sentence upheld by Dubai Court of Appeal.

The 31-year-old woman had filed several cases against the father of her children in an attempt to win custody after she re-married, as a woman loses custody automatically under UAE law after taking a second husband.

The 41-year-old man denied charges of issuing threats and insisted that the accusations were malicious because his ex-wife was trying to win custody of their children.

The ex-husband was accused of allegedly calling a mutual friend of theirs and threatening to throw acid on his Egyptian ex-wife’s face and her mother if she did not leave him alone.

The woman claimed to prosecutors that the mutual friend told her about the phone conversation, after which she reported him to police.
