DUBAI // A desperate lover threatened the father of the girl he loves, saying he would kill him, his wife and kidnap his daughter if he refused to allow her to marry him, Dubai Criminal Court heard on Wednesday.
Pakistani R K, 26, allegedly told 50-year-old S K, who is also from Pakistan, that he would “slaughter him, slaughter his wife and kidnap his daughter”.
The defendant was not present in court to enter a plea against a charge of issuing threats to kill.
Prosecutors said the incident occurred on October 23 last year and that, after making the threats, R K said he would not kill the father if he was paid Dh25,000.
The father said in records that his daughter was engaged to another man when he was approached by the defendant nearly eight month ago.
“He called me and introduced himself then asked for my daughter’s hand in marriage,” S K said. “I refused and told him that she was engaged but he did not take that well and became really mad then started insulting me and threatening me.”
He added that two weeks after their phone call, he saw the defendant while out. “He came to me and insulted me, saying that my wife was a b****. He also said that he will slaughter me, her and kidnap my daughter but I didn’t give him much attention,” said S K.
Later that same day, the defendant allegedly went to the workplace of S K in Al Awir, grabbed him by the shirt and waved a knife in his face, threatening to kill him if the father did not allow the marriage, or if he did not pay Dh25,000.
When the defendant left, the father called police and reported the incident.
R K was not in court on Wednesday and the next hearing was set for March 11 to give time to summon him.
