DUBAI // A cleaner who stole a wallet containing Dh20,000 from a saleswoman’s desk has been sent to jail.

Chinese woman G Z told prosecutors that she left the wallet in her office on April 6 and only noticed it was missing when she tried to pay for petrol.

“I left my office at 6pm and stopped at a gas station to fill up my car before I went home. When I wanted to pay, I realised I had forgotten my wallet,” said the 27-year-old.

She searched for it the next day but could not find it, so she reported the matter to police.

CCTV footage from the office showed Sri Lankan cleaner F K, 35, taking it.

He pleaded guilty to a charge of theft.

At Dubai Criminal Court on Thursday, he was sentenced to three months in jail, followed by deportation.
