An man who pretended to represent a charity to con people out of money has been sentenced to one year in prison.
Ras al Khaimah Criminal Court was told that the Asian national, 30, wore clothes bearing a charity logo and presented residents with a card attributed to the same organisation as proof he worked there.
"He wore a logo of a charity that is not from the emirate, which is not the norm," an Emirati man, who reported the accused to the police last June, told judges.
The man was thought to be collecting charity donations, which he then pocketed.
The accused was apprehend and denied the allegations during questioning; however, he later admitted to defrauding people out of money for personal gain.
He was convicted of impersonation, forgery, fraud, and raising funds without a licence.
He will be deported after serving his term but can appeal his sentence within the next two weeks.
