Man jailed for attempted murder of compatriot

DUBAI // A Pakistani man will spend five years in jail after being convicted of the attempted murder of a compatriot.

Dubai Criminal Court heard that on the evening of September 25 last year Q H, 23, stabbed M F, 20, in the stomach, back and chest, missing his heart by inches.

When Q H appeared in court last August he denied the attempted murder charge and said he was acting in self defence.

“I did not mean to kill him, he attacked me and I had to defend myself so I stabbed him,” Q H told judges. He also presented an official document stating that the victim had dropped his rights in the case.

Prosecutors said Q H lured M F to his room in Jebel Ali after claiming he had found his lost ATM card.

“As we entered the room he asked me to sit and then locked the door and turned off the lights,” said M F, who saw Q H take out a knife he was hiding in his trousers.

“He stabbed me in the left and right sides of my abdomen then below my heart and in my back,” said M F, who managed to grab the knife and unlock the door.

M G, from Pakistan, was in the shower when he heard screams coming from Q H’s room. “I ran to Q H’s room but the door was locked, the screams continued then the door opened and M F fell in a pool of his own blood right under my feet,” M G said.

Prosecutors records state that Q H confessed to planning his attack 15 minutes beforehand. However, no details about the reasons behind the attack were available.

Q H will be deported after serving his jail term, which remains subject to appeal within 15 days.
