ABU DHABI // A man who raped his 12-year-old niece in her home has been jailed for 10 years by the Criminal Court.
The trial heard that R M, an Emirati, had such a reputation for drunkenness and sexual harrassment that most of his family had banned him from their home, and his wife had threatened to leave him several times.
But the victim’s father had given him permission to enter the majlis outside his home. The father was out of the country on the night of the assault.
The mother and her daughters, 14 and 12, had just returned from a trip and went straight to bed, leaving the uncle to sleep in the majlis.
He went to a nearby hotel and drank a bottle of wine, then entered the house and began to harrass the maid.
She rejected him so he made his way up to the older niece’s room, but she also kicked him out.
He then went to the younger niece and told her that her mother was cooking food for her downstairs. The girl said she was too tired and did not want to eat but he insisted.
She was scared of him because he used to beat her so she followed him downstairs to the majlis, where he pushed her to the floor and raped her.
