DUBAI // A man has been sentenced to a year in jail for attempting to bribe officials who caught him offering an illegal taxi service at Dubai International Airport.

Indian L F, 34, was seen by two Roads and Transport Authority inspectors as he met three men at the terminal and then went to a car nearby.

The inspectors approached the driver, L F, who claimed he was giving friends a lift.

However, the passengers said they were paying L F Dh200 to drive them to Al Ain.

Somalian inspector A L, 31, said he and his colleague were offered an Dh800 bribe by L F as they prepared to fine him for operating a taxi without a licence.

The inspector then called the police, who arrested L F and confiscated the Dh800 he had placed in A L’s car.

At Dubai Criminal Court last month, L F denied a charge of offering a bribe. However, he was found guilty and jailed.
