DUBAI // A drunk man has been jailed for one year for trying to drown a 10-year-old boy after molesting him while swimming.
Dubai Criminal Court was told that Pakistani driver S J, 31, sexually assaulted Indian K K and endangered the boy’s life by pushing his head under water.
On the day of the attack in June, the child’s family were at Jumeirah Open Beach when at about 7.30pm, K K’s father saw a crowd gathered around his wife, who was shouting.
“I was walking on the shore when I saw the crowd and my wife really angry. I went there and some men were restraining the defendant and saying he did something to my son,” said M M, 39. He asked his son what had happened and he said S J molested him while swimming and tried to drown him.
The boy’s mother, L N, 35, said she saw S J approach her son in the sea and pull him by force. “He grabbed my son’s right hand and stuck his body to K K’s body from the back,” L N said.
The mother started screaming at S J but he continued touching her son and pushing him under water. She then swam out towards them and pushed S J away. A group of men who heard her screams caught S J when he tried to escape.
The boy said he fought back and kicked S J several times.
Police arrested S J, who was drunk, at the scene. He was fined Dh2,000 for consuming alcohol without a licence and will be deported after serving his jail term.
