ABU DHABI // A man who went for noon prayers during working hours had his salary cut, the Federal Supreme Court heard.

The man, who worked at the National Archives, said the head of human resources issued a number of sanctions against him after writing a report that stated he performed noon prayers at a nearby mosque without getting official approval. One of the sanctions was a reduction in his monthly salary.

The employee filed a case at the Federal Court of First Instance requesting the sanctions be lifted but the court and the appeal court both rejected his case.

He took his case to the Supreme Court, arguing the sanctions issued against him were signed by the head of human resources and the law only permits the head of a government entity to sign such documents.

The Supreme Court decided the lower courts did not study his claims thoroughly enough and retuened the case to the appeals court.
