DUBAI // A man has been found guilty of selling fuel from his car without a licence.
Pakistani E H, 22, was caught carrying the fuel in his Ford Explorer and selling it to a buyer in Sharjah.
He was charged with endangering the lives of others by carrying fuel in his private vehicle without obtaining a licence.
He did not appear at Dubai Court of Misdemeanours to enter a plea.
The man was arrested at 2.30am on March 2 but police said he had been carrying and selling fuel illegally around Al Qusais area for some time.
When stopped, police found a tank containing Dh1,500 worth of fuel and that the car was registered in a different name.
They said the defendant confessed that he had been given the car by a man who told him to buy the fuel, and then hand it over to him in Sharjah to resell for a higher price.
But the man he referred to was found to be living outside of the country.
“When the police patrol stopped me and saw the tank I told them what it was and told them that this is my job,” E H said.
“The man in Sharjah, Asad, handed me the car with the tank inside and told me that buying fuel like this and giving it back to him was my duty.”
The Pakistani said he did not know how Asad sold the fuel.
But the court did not believe his story and he was found guilty and fined Dh2,000.
