Man dies in Sharjah road accident

SHARJAH // A pedestrian has died after being hit by a car, the second such fatal accident in the emirate in the last week.

The accident happened on the Sheikh Khalid Road in the Khor Fakhan area at around 8am on Monday.

A car driven by the Emirati Q A, 26, ran over an Asian identified as S A, 24, as he was crossing the road, an official from the Eastern Region police operations room said. The driver was detained and an investigation into the accident is underway.

"Police patrols and ambulances rushed on the scene after being told of the accident but found the Asian had already died," he said. "The body was carried to the Khorfakhan Hospital."

The incident follows the death of a pedestrian in an accident in the Al Arouba Street near the Khalidiya bridge last week. He was hit by a car that police said had been pushed off the road when it was struck by a bus trying to move into the left lane from the right. Four more people walking on the roadside suffered moderate to severe injuries and were transported to the Kuwait Hospital.
