DUBAI // Two carpenters repeatedly kicked a compatriot in the head, causing injuries that led to his death a month later.

The Indian men, both 40, had been drinking with the victim, 44, on February 12 when a fight broke out.

“I can’t remember what happened, I was completely drunk,” said one of the men.

A Nepalese worker told Dubai Criminal Court that he saw the two men kicking the victim, who was on the ground.

“It was about 11.30am and I was walking with colleagues back to our accommodation at Dubai Investment Park when we saw the two carpenters assaulting him,” said the worker, 30.

“We rushed there and saw the man bleeding from the head, and we could smell alcohol on all three of them.”

The attackers left when the worker and his colleagues arrived to help the victim.

An ambulance took the injured man to hospital where he spent more than a month and had several operations. He died of bleeding in the brain.

The workers helped police to track down the two men within 24 hours. The two denied the attack, but admitted to drinking without licences.

Both will be deported after serving seven-year prison terms.
