ABU DHABI // A bodybuilder arrested on suspicion of smoking hashish said the urine sample taken by police could have been contaminated, a court heard.
TM said he was “upset and having a bad day” and needed to let off steam at the time of the incident.
He said he smoked two cigarettes that were in a Red Marlboro box in his friend’s car and “did not feel anything”, the Criminal Court heard on Monday.
Judge El Sayed Abdulbaseer said he would not be able to smoke two cigarettes if he was a non-smoker.
Police then saw the two and arrested them.
“I was asked if I smoke weed regularly. I told the policeman I am a bodybuilder, I never smoke,” TM said.
“I didn’t know the UAE allowed hashish in, or that it could be taken through a regular cigarette.”
TM also criticised the police. He claimed officers harassed him and kept him in prison for days.
“They named several people that I didn’t know. I told them I had no contact with them and then they asked for my urine sample,” he said. He said the percentage of hashish in his urine sample shocked him, and asked for a review.
Judge Abdulbaseer asked TM if he thought his sample was mixed with someone else’s.
“It is possible,” he replied.
The judge ordered a review of the sample and called for TM’s friend, to give evidence.
The percentage was mentioned in court but not records.
The case was adjourned to March 31.
