Man arrested for molesting woman on Corniche

Abu Dhabi Police have arrested a man whom they accuse of molesting a woman while she crossed an underpass on the corniche.

ABU DHABI // Abu Dhabi Police have arrested a man on suspicion of molesting a woman while she walked through an underpass near the Corniche.

After the incident was reported, police formed a task force to survey the area and monitor CCTV footage. The European victim gave police a detailed description of the suspect, which helped officers to identify and arrest the man, who was from a Middle Eastern country.

Police said the man confessed during interrogations and the case was referred to judicial authorities.

Colonel Ahmed Al Muhairi of Abu Dhabi Police said harassment and “defilement of any form” were punishable by law.

He added that police have security surveillance in all underpasses and pedestrian areas as well as at tourist attractions.
