ABU DHABI // A man promoted the ideals of and sent money to ISIL and other terrorist groups, the State Security division of the Federal Supreme Court.
A W, 29, an Emirati, is also accused of defaming the UAE by calling it “cartoonish”, “cursed” and “an apostatical state”.
On Monday, the court heard he created an account on an Islamic website called Shabakat Al Fidaa Al Islalmiya, Arabic for ‘The Islamic Redemption Network’ that supports Jihadism, where he published information aiming to stir discord, harm national unity and social peace, and disturb the general system of the country.
Prosecutors also said he created an account on this website where he expressed sympathy for terrorist groups such as Al Qaeda, Jabhat Al Nusra and ISIL with the hope of encouraging new members to also promote their ideals.
He is also accused of providing financial support to ISIL and Jabhat Al Nusra. The amount was not disclosed in court.
A W denied all the charges.
His lawyer, Ali Al Mannaei, did not ask for any witnesses and requested an adjournment to prepare his defence.
Judge Falah Al Hajeri adjourned the case to May 4.

Dr Amal Khalid Alias revealed a recent case of a woman with daughters, who specifically wanted a boy.
A semen analysis of the father showed abnormal sperm so the couple required IVF.
Out of 21 eggs collected, six were unused leaving 15 suitable for IVF.
A specific procedure was used, called intracytoplasmic sperm injection where a single sperm cell is inserted into the egg.
On day three of the process, 14 embryos were biopsied for gender selection.
The next day, a pre-implantation genetic report revealed four normal male embryos, three female and seven abnormal samples.
Day five of the treatment saw two male embryos transferred to the patient.
The woman recorded a positive pregnancy test two weeks later.
