Man accused of stealing Dh700,000 worth of valuables from Dubai villa

A man is accused of breaking into a villa in Dubai and stealing Dh700,000 worth of jewellery and valuables, Dubai Criminal Court heard.
The robbery happened in Al Warqaa 4 on January 8 this year. The villa's occupants were reportedly visiting people in Abu Dhabi when the thieves scaled the wall, used a screwdriver to break open the back door and stole the valuables as well as four hard discs.
"We received a report from the villa's owner who said that her maids, who had returned to the villa after spending the night at her sister's place, found the house in a mess and informed her immediately," said a Yemeni officer, 42.
The Emirati owner, 37, said the thieves stole all her jewellery, including green diamond earrings, several diamond sets, gold necklaces and bracelets, watches, five mobile phones and hard discs that contain private pictures of herself.
"I kept them in a safe in my bedroom wardrobe," said the owner.
Primary investigations revealed that a 36-year-old Chinese man and his two countrymen, who remain at large, were involved in the robbery.
On January 15, the accused was apprehended at Dubai's International City and admitted his role in the robbery during police questioning.
"He claimed that while his two accomplices broke the backside door with a screwdriver and gained entry to the villa, he remained outside in a rented car as look out. He also said that they committed several other heists," the officer said.
It was not disclosed in records where the valuables were found.
The defendant denied a robbery charge in court and the next hearing will be on May 21.
