Man accused of belonging to terrorist organisation appears in Abu Dhabi court

ABU DHABI // A man who was being tried in absentia for belonging to the illegal Shabab Al Manara organisation appeared at the Federal Supreme Court on Sunday.

G S M, an Emirati, is one of 41 men on trial for belonging to the illegal group that planned to create a “caliphate” in the UAE.

He is one of three men who were being tried in absentia. He is accused of joining foreign terrorist groups Jabhat Al Nusra and ISIL in Syria.

G S M confessed to joining two factions that later became part of the terror organizations.

However, he denied forming Shabab Al Manara with the co-defendants stating that he left the country in 2013.

A defence hearing was scheduled for February 14. The final verdict for the terrorist cell is still scheduled for March 6.
