DUBAI // A man accused of being part of a gang who impersonated police officers before attacking and robbing a family in their home has been found not guilty.
At Dubai Criminal Court on Thursday, prosecutors said that on May 3 this year, Pakistani A T, 26, along with seven unidentified men, carried out the robbery.
The court heard that the gang knocked on the door of 27-year-old Pakistani H H’s home, which he shared with his wife and brother.
Records showed that two of the attackers were carrying wooden sticks and assaulted H H and his brother.
“It was nearly 10am when eight men came into the flat then locked the door,” said H H, adding that one of the men, who was wearing a Dubai Police hat and carrying a knife, slapped and punched him. Another man slapped and punched his brother, he said.
“They searched the house for anything valuable and, when they did not find anything, they stole Dh3,500 in cash from my wallet,” H H said.
Police were alerted after H H’s wife made a call to the emergency services.
“I said I needed to use the bathroom then used my mobile phone to call police,” she said.
By the time police arrived, the attackers had fled. However, A T was arrested after being found in the building.
A T was also acquitted of armed robbery.
