ABU DHABI // Three hundred kilograms of hashish and more than one million captagon pills were seized by Sharjah Police in two anti-drug investigations.
Operation Suitcase of Death uncovered 1.27 million captagon pills – which authorities estimate have a street value of Dh44 million – in several suitcases stored in a Sharjah flat.
Investigations led to the arrest of two individuals which are thought by investigators to be part of an international narcotics gang which smuggled the pills into the UAE in metallic tuxbes with the intent of distributing to other GCC countries.
Sharjah Police said the suspects confessed to possessing the drugs and planning to distribute with the help of two others.

In a second investigation, the drugs department at the Sharjah Police, in collaboration with the Federal Department of Anti-Narcotics, uncovered 300kg of hashish stored in lorry spare parts at a warehouse in the emirate.
The hashish – estimated to have a street value of Dh2m – was tracked down after the arrest of Asian national who said he was awaiting orders from abroad.
Col Abdullah bin Amer, deputy chief of Sharjah Police, said the investigations showed the capabilities of the force.
“We would like to convey a clear message to the community, and stress that when it comes to security, we can contain any negative phenomenon, ” he said.
