A town square in Luxor, Egypt, has been renamed in honour of the President, Sheikh Khalifa.

Dr Sultan bin Ahmed Sultan Al Jaber, the Minister of State, said the move reflected the high regard that the Egyptian people had for Sheikh Khalifa, as well as thanks for the UAE’s role in supporting the country.

In December last year, the UAE announced it was building projects worth millions of dirhams in Egypt over the next few years, including 78 health centres, 25 grain silos, railway crossings, 1,488 housing units and hundreds of schools.

In Luxor, three health centres were to be renovated at a cost of Dh3.9 million.

Dr Al Jaber said 50,000 housing units and 100 schools had already been completed in Egypt.

Sanitation infrastructure was being developed in 151 villages, and the majority of Egyptian governorates would benefit from the UAE projects.

The UAE is also working with Egypt to revive its economy.

Dr Al Jaber said that a study had identified systems to boost the Egyptian economy’s ability in a bid to attract foreign investments into sectors that could create jobs.
