UMM AL QUWAIN // Fish prices in Umm Al Quwain market have increased significantly due to high demand and low supply, reported Al Ittihad, the Arabic sister-publication of The National.
The price of mullet now ranges between Dh250 and Dh300 per 4kg. Safi fish is priced at Dh240 per 4kg, Shari is sold for Dh140 per 4kg and Hamour is sold for Dh240 per 4kg. Local fish prices are based on an old measure called mann, where one mann is equal to 4kg.
Fish migrate during the summer towards cooler depths, affecting the market. Prices are expected to drop in the winter as availability increases.
