Judicial department to exchange information

The Abu Dhabi Judicial Department agrees to exchange information with a Dubai court.

The Abu Dhabi Judicial Department (ADJD) has agreed to exchange information with a Dubai court, in an example of cross-emirate judicial co-operation. A delegation from the Dubai International Financial Centre court (DIFC) yesterday visited the ADJD to discuss several recent initiatives by the judicial department, including technological advances and judicial training. The financial centre court, which settles commercial disputes, said the initiatives had made the ADJD the example to be followed by the judicial departments of the region.

Sultan Saeed al Badi, undersecretary of the Abu Dhabi Judicial Department, welcomed the delegation stating that the role of specialised commercial courts in supporting the national economy, especially at a time when judicial advancements are being made, is a fundamental pillar for development in the emirate. "The institution of a specialised court that looks into all economic matters goes hand in hand with the larger Abu Dhabi development project, and in line with the wide economic and urban resurgence that the emirate is witnessing today."

The DIFC delegation was also impressed with advancements made by the ADJD that include electronic archiving of documents and video court conferencing. [e-mail]
