Jail for man who impersonated Dubai policeman to grope 18-year-old student

DUBAI // A salesman who posed as a police officer and molested a university student was sentenced to six months in jail on Thursday.

Indian B G, 31, touched the thigh, stomach and breast of 18-year-old compatriot M S after he fooled her and a friend into believing he was a policeman.

The student was in her friend’s car in Academic City on February 8 when B G knocked on the window and asked them to show their IDs.

“He asked us what we were doing in the car and pulled out a walkie-talkie from his pocket and told us that he will call the police,” she told Dubai Criminal Court.

The salesman spoke into the radio in Arabic and got the pair to hand over their IDs.

M S’s male friend, Indian D F, 18, said the salesman took photos of their IDs and told him to get into the back seat.

The salesman then drove D F’s car to a nearby supermarket, gave the teenager Dh1 and ordered him to fetch tea.

After D F had left the vehicle, MS: “He asked me if I was a virgin and if I was a Muslim.

“He touched me on my left thigh, breast and my stomach before D F returned.”

BG then drove back to where he had found them, gave D F his ID back and told him to get out of the car.

“He asked me what will I do to him, and I replied that I can’t do anything,” the victim said.

He then gave her back her ID, returned to his car and drove off. She took a photo of his number plate and reported the incident to her university.

Police officer A A, 28, told prosecutors that police had been tipped off about similar incidents occurring in the area.

The salesman was arrested in Al Qusais.

MS denied charges of sexual assault and impersonating a police officer. He will be deported after completing his prison term.
