A woman has asked a court to order her former husband to pay back the Dh700,000 she spent on him during their marriage.
The Emirati woman has filed a lawsuit at the Court of First Instance saying that she took out a bank loan to give him Dh145,000 to buy a car, but he instead took the money for another use.
She then took out a loan of Dh35,000 so he could buy another car, and gave him Dh100,000 to redecorate their home.
He again used the money for other things and did not pay her back.
She also accused him of taking over her stock profit in the amount of Dh170,000, rental income of Dh85,000 for the house owned by her family and Dh78,000 in rental fees for a bus she bought.
The woman said her husband put the bus into his name using his power of attorney, and rented it out for Dh4,800 monthly.
The husband was also accused of borrowing Dh1,800 from the woman’s maid’s visa fees and spending Dh3,400 set aside for the maid’s airline ticket.
The wife added that she paid the salaries of the driver, cook and maid for a total of Dh4,600 a month.
And the husband was said to have withdrawn more than Dh60,000 from various bank accounts.
The woman was able to identify the types of car she bought for the ex-husband, which she expected to be paid for, and specified where she bought them and gave details of the bank loans.
The man’s lawyer argued that the documents the woman presented were not authentic and that the lawsuit should be rejected.
The woman’s lawyer asked the court to order her ex-husband to swear a legal oath, denying the accusations, and the court agreed.
The case continues.
