A 200-strong emergency response team have been working in shifts to tackle flooding in various parts of Dubai, following the downpour over the weekend. Light showers were experienced today as well, as motorists negotiated through flooded streets, parking lots and even water-logged highways. Talib Julfar, the director of drainage and irrigation at Dubai Municipality, said that the flooding was mostly confined to areas where road works are going on. "Apart from our response team of 200 people, we have 45 tankers operating in the city and over 60 pumps that are being used to clear the water," said Mr Julfar. He added that the officials are monitoring the drainage network regularly to ensure that there is no blockage. Meanwhile, residents in areas like Al Quoz, Al Barsha, Discovery Gardens and Deira have reported incidents of flooding, which is causing slow-moving traffic. Mr Julfar said that the situation is under control and no major incidents have been reported so far. Overcast conditions continued in Dubai today with light showers expected over the next few days.
