Hundreds of car crashes in Ajman over three days of Eid, police say

AJMAN // Two-hundred and sixty-nine car crashes occurred during three days of Eid Al Fitr holiday in Ajman.

According to the statistics released by the Patrol and Traffic Department at Ajman Police, two severe car accidents occurred and there were 267 minor incidents but no one died on the Wednesday, Thursday and Friday of the holiday.

Negligence, lack of attention and not leaving enough space between vehicles were the causes of the collisions, said Col Ali Al Musaibi, director of the department.

“We intensified the patrols around 15 mosques during the Eid prayer in the morning to arrange the traffic movement and avoid random parking,” he said.

The director added that the proportion of accidents is actually decreasing annually, if compared to the growing population.

“Our plans are aimed at educating motorists of the importance of using the road optimally, as the department organised nine campaigns last year to raise awareness among drivers about the dangers of roads,” Col Al Musaibi said.
