ABU DHABI // A woman slapped a police officer who came to break up her alcohol and drug-fuelled hotel room party, a court heard on Monday.
A 20-year-old Uzbek saleswoman, and her compatriot and colleague, who is 21, were in the room with two Jordanian men when the incident allegedly happened. They are all accused of beautifying a sinful act by staying all night alone in a hotel room, and for consuming alcohol and drugs.
When police arrived, the 20-year-old wanted to leave but the policewoman told her she was not allowed to and blocked her way. So the defendant slapped the policewoman in the face, prosecutors said.
One of the Jordanian men said he met the two women at the shop where they worked in Al Wahda Mall, and that the four of them were merely drinking as friends, with nothing illicit happening.
He added that he was not there throughout the night, as he had to leave to pick up his wife and children from the airport. When he returned to the hotel room the following morning he was surprised to find the police were there.
As he was not present when police arrived after receiving complaints from the hotel about broken furniture, he was asked to leave.
However, a day later police called him and ordered him to go to the station. “I told them I was in the hospital with my wife and I will go later but they sent a police patrol and arrested me at the hospital in front of my wife,” he said.
The other Jordanian supported his friend’s claim that he was not present with them throughout the night, however, he said that his friend was with them at first and that he was the one who invited the women to the party.
The case, at Abu Dhabi Criminal Court, was adjourned until May 9.
