Home care nurse stole necklace from elderly woman, Dubai court told

DUBAI // A home care nurse stole a Dh7,000 gold necklace from her 74-year-old employer.

In August this year, the 25-year-old Filipina stole the gold necklace belonging to the elderly Emirati and tried to sell it at a jewellery shop.

The woman received a phone call from the jeweller informing her the nurse was trying to sell a necklace without producing a purchase receipt.

“He told me the Filipina had a necklace of mine that she claimed I gave to her as a gift,” said the housewife.

She told the jeweller the maid had stolen it from her and reported the theft to police.

The defendant told prosecutors she saw the necklace on a table in the bedroom and took it.

At Dubai Criminal Court she confessed to a theft charge.

A verdict is expected in December 28.
