Thousands of meals are being distributed throughout Ramadan across Ajman this year, charity association Beit Al Khair announced. Known as iftar sayem, which means breaking the fast of a person who is fasting, distributing such meals is considered one of the most important Ramadan activities due to its religious value. Beit Al Khair, which seeks to help the less financially fortunate UAE residents, has allocated 5,500 iftar meals to be distributed every day across the emirate, with 1,500 served at Ramadan public tents and 4,000 to be handed out. “Such acts, which have been passed from generation to generation, spread compassion among the people,” said Ameera Shaker, head of the association’s branch in Ajman. The project has also attracted a significant number of young people to volunteer in the distribution process, said Ali Al Buloushi, supervisor of the iftar sayem team. “All government departments have been very co-operative in making this project a success,” he said. The meals are distributed in co-operation with the Ajman Municipality and Planning Department.
