DUBAI // UAE consumers are being urged not to eat any Collagen Protein Bars or Bites because the products may be contaminated with an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections.
The Ministry of Climate Change and Environment (MOCCAE) stated that it is following closely the food recall warning on the USA Food and Drug Administration website detailing the Bulletproof 360 recall of five Collagen Protein Bar and Bite products because they have the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.
The affected products were distributed between April 7, 2017 and June 12, 2017 in US retail stores and on bulletproof.com and sent to customers in different countries, including UAE.
The affected products include Fudge Brownie Collagen Protein Bar, Fudge Brownie Collagen Protein Bite, Lemon Cookie Collagen Protein Bar, Vanilla Shortbread Collagen Protein Bar and Vanilla Shortbread Collagen Protein Bite.
No other Bulletproof products, including Bulletproof Collagen Powder, are affected or are involved in this recall. No illnesses have been reported to date.
Listeria monocytogenes is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people and others with weakened immune systems.
Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhoea, listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.
The Ministry of Climate Change and Environment emphasises that all food products in the UAE, whether locally produced or imported, are safe for consumption as they are strictly monitored by the ministry and relevant local authorities.
