ABU DHABI // An agreement has been signed to promote higher standards for issuing and renewing social-care licences.

The Communicity Development Authority (CDA) and UAE University (UAEU) signed off on the plans that aim to offer fair evaluations for social-care professionals and to support them with the training needed to gain the required skills.

The university will provide licensing examinations and continuing education for social workers, case managers, family therapists, counsellors, psychologists and special-education teachers.

The Continuing Education Centre at UAEU will prepare six new professional exams in addition to the licensing exam-preparation programme to help professionals attain the required skills to pass the exams.

“CDA is in charge of developing regulations and rules related to the social-care services and constantly developing the quality of these services in order to protect the individuals’ rights and ensure integrated inclusion of the vulnerable groups in the community,” said Khaled Al Kamda, director general of the CDA.

“We take into consideration all the parties involved in social services and on the top of them are the professionals, therefore having scientific examinations before issuing the licences is important to confirm that the social-care worker is well educated about the best practices in his field worldwide,” he said.

UAEU chancellor Dr Ali Rashid Al Nuaimi echoed the comments.

“We are glad to cooperate with CDA in licensing and qualifying the workers in this field, which will definitely have positive outcomes on the social services provided to individuals,” he said.
