Sharjah vital cancer care unit to be one of region's best

SHARJAH // A top cancer-care unit has been set up at Sharjah's University Hospital.

The facility will deal with early detection and specialised treatment of a range of tumours.

"This vital unit was established to provide a number of diagnostic and therapeutic services," Dr Riadh bin Dardaf, consultant and head of the oncology unit, told the state news agency Wam.

The cancer centre would save time and costs for those currently travelling to other emirates or abroad for treatment, Dr bin Dardaf said.

The oncology therapeutic and diagnostic unit's team has two main sections - one for early detection and diagnoses and one specialising in the treatment of existing conditions. Dr bin Dardaf said a team of French surgeons and specialists had been recruited, along with cancer experts and consultants.

"The unit is now offering a range of holistic services that includes most tumours and is no longer restricted to offering breast cancer early detection services," he said.

"This is a significant and praiseworthy achievement that will help make the unit one of the region's best medical centres dedicated to offering this service."
