ABU DHABI // Expert medical consultation is now just a phone call away.
On Monday, Mubadala Healthcare announced the opening of Abu Dhabi Telemedicine Centre, a joint venture between Mubadala and Switzerland’s telemedicine provider Medgate.
The services are offered exclusively through the National Health Insurance Company, or Daman, to its Thiqa and Enhanced plan members.
The centre is the first in the UAE to offer around the clock medical tele-consultation service.
“The centre is transforming the way health care is delivered in the UAE by enabling patients to receive world-class health care over the phone at any time,” said Suhail Mahmood Al Ansari, executive director at Mubadala Healthcare.
Eligible patients can call Abu Dhabi Telemedicine Centre’s toll free number 800-4959 for a tele-consultation related to non-emergency medical conditions such as flu, stomach illness, cough and cold, paediatrics, and dermatology, among others.
Calls are answered by a telemedical nurse who will ask for the patient’s symptoms to create an electronic medical record and schedule a call back by a doctor, and within 30 minutes, a doctor will call the patient back for a full medical consultation.
“We are excited to transfer our experience in the telemedicine field to Abu Dhabi Telemedicine Centre, and provide the sophisticated technology and the training necessary to provide the highest standard medical consultations over the phone to patients in the UAE,” said Andy Fischer, chief executive of Medgate.
