ABU DHABI // More than 300 labourers have undergone free medical checks during a two-day initiative in Abu Dhabi’s largest industrial district.
Abu Dhabi City Municipality and Dar Al Shifa Hospital offered free tests for low-income residents, many of them construction workers that toil in the summer heat.
Screenings included blood pressure, diabetes, body mass index, eyesight, hearing and skin tests.
The employees were also given medical counselling and tips to identify health problems.
The initiative illustrates the commitment of the Department of Municipal Affairs and Transport - Abu Dhabi City Municipality, towards social responsibility and their keenness to participate in supporting all humanitarian and communal initiatives.
Such initiatives contribute to perpetuating the values of social solidarity among community members and widening the scope of charitable activities, the municipality said.

La Mer lowdown
La Mer beach is open from 10am until midnight, daily, and is located in Jumeirah 1, well after Kite Beach. Some restaurants, like Cupagahwa, are open from 8am for breakfast; most others start at noon. At the time of writing, we noticed that signs for Vicolo, an Italian eatery, and Kaftan, a Turkish restaurant, indicated that these two restaurants will be open soon, most likely this month. Parking is available, as well as a Dh100 all-day valet option or a Dh50 valet service if you’re just stopping by for a few hours.
So what is Spicy Chickenjoy?
Just as McDonald’s has the Big Mac, Jollibee has Spicy Chickenjoy – a piece of fried chicken that’s crispy and spicy on the outside and comes with a side of spaghetti, all covered in tomato sauce and topped with sausage slices and ground beef. It sounds like a recipe that a child would come up with, but perhaps that’s the point – a flavourbomb combination of cheap comfort foods. Chickenjoy is Jollibee’s best-selling product in every country in which it has a presence.
