ABU DHABI // Five pharmacies have been shut down in the first four months of this year for violating Ministry of Health rules.

Violations included only assistants being present, without the presence of the pharmacist in charge, dispensing controlled drugs without the customer having a prescription and non-compliance with ministry decisions.

The undersecretary of the Ministry of Health for public health policy and licensing, Dr Amin Al Amiri, said that the majority of pharmacies operate legally and that the violators only amount to 1 per cent of 2,400 businesses that operate across the country.
