ABU DHABI // The first team of Emirati doctors have arrived in Athens as part of a programme to provide medical care to Syrian refugees in Greece.
The programme, launched under the directives of Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed, the Ruler’s Representative in the Western Region and Chairman of the Emirates Red Crescent Authority, will see the doctors offering curative, preventive and diagnosis services to refugees in camps in different Greek cities.
The team of doctors consists of specialists in emergency and internal medicine, gynaecology, paediatrics, dermatology, ophthalmology and other medical specialisations, reported Wam, the sate news agency.
ERC Secretary General Dr Mohammed Atiq Al Falahi described the initiative as a “unique step to mitigate risks facing the refugees and to support the efforts made by Greece to provide better living conditions to thousands of refugees who defied difficult conditions to reach there.”
