The UAE reported 1,136 new cases of Covid-19 on Thursday after 128,186 tests were carried out in the previous 24 hours. The tally of infections now stands at 146,735. Health authorities said 773 patients had recovered from the virus, taking the overall recoveries to 141,215. Three deaths were reported, pushing the mortalities to 523. The total number of active cases in the Emirates is 4,997. The number of active cases has gone up this week after new infections exceeded recoveries. The UAE has carried out more than 14.6 million tests since the outbreak began, as part of a mass-screening strategy to limit the spread of the virus. Abu Dhabi said on Wednesday that the rate of Covid-19 infections in the emirate is as low as 0.39 per cent of total tests. The percentage of confirmed cases per total tests is over the past three months. The rate of 0.39 per cent means that only one in 256 tests led to a positive result during the period. The overall rate of infections for the UAE is typically at about 1 per cent, which is also low compared with other countries. Globally, nearly 51.3 million Covid-19 cases have been recorded, while the global death toll has passed 1.2 million and nearly 33.4 million patients have recovered.
