The UAE recorded 786 coronavirus cases on Thursday, bringing its total to 82,568. A further 661 patients were given the all-clear as the overall recovery total climbed to 72,117. No deaths were registered today. The infections were identified after 92,912 tests were carried out in the past 24 hours. Close to 8.4 million tests have been conducted as part of the UAE’s mass screening strategy. The country recorded 164 daily cases on August 3 but the number rose to 1,007 on September 12. Due to the surge in the cases, authorities have increased inspections and are getting strict with those who fail to abide by Covid-19 safety rules. In the latest round of inspections on Thursday, Dubai Economy officers fined seven businesses as staff failed to wear face masks. Those penalised include retail outlets in various shopping centres and standalone stores selling wallpaper, building materials, electrical fittings and lights. Officials also warned two establishments for failing to install floor markings to ensure physical distancing between customers. No stores were shut down in this round of inspections. Authorities said 820 shops and commercial establishments fully complied with the precautionary guidelines. Dubai Economy has asked all businesses and consumers to help avoid the spread of the coronavirus. “Dubai has seen a gradual return to normal and safe economic activities thanks to the directives of the leadership,” said a Dubai Economy representative. “Strict action will be taken against any violation or abuse of the precautionary measures detected by the authorities or reported by consumers and the public.” Authorities have urged the public to report offenders by visiting the Dubai Consumer app, by calling 600545555 or by visiting www.consumerrights.ae.
